“NuYoRican”, depicts the hardship and eventual triumph of the assimilation of Puerto Ricans who migrated to the United States after World War II and the cultural shock they experienced due to the enormous changes that followed from Puerto Rico after being declared a U.S. protectorate.
The production also captures the essence of the Puerto Ricans’ Spanish and African roots with dances like La Plena y La Bomba, as well as Mambos, Salsas, Latin Jazz and Reggaeton and a tribute to Puero Rican musician Tito Puente!
A moving performance including true accounts from such authors as Julia Barden Torres, Piri Thomas and Esmeralda Santiago. A relevant piece in current times. A dance theater production for the whole family.
